AORL-85
The AORL-85 “Ekran” (abbr. of Aerodromnyy Obzornyy RadioLokator; Cyrillic: Аэродромный Обзорный РадиоЛокатор «Экран-85») is an operating in L-Band airport surveillance radar, designed for the detection and determination of aircraft coordinates (azimuth, distance) and the management of air traffic on the airfield site.
The radar uses a double-curved parabolic reflector with dimensions of 7.5 × 4 m. The antenna is fed by two horn radiators and forms two antenna patterns (lower beam, upper beam). The waveform of the transmitted signal is intrapulsmodulated with linear frequency modulation. The radar can select between 8 transmitting frequencies in the specified frequency range.
AORL-85 is fitted with two secondary radars for national and international modes. Both secondary radars use the additional omnidirectional antenna next to the parabolic reflector for sidelobe suppression.
A modernization also uses assemblies of the successor model AORL-1.
