AN/FPS-80

AN/FPS-80 was operating in UHF-Band tracking radar. It was to be tied into an electronic intelligence sensor to achieve better identification of targets.

The only radar of this type was installed at Shemya Island, Alaska. It was operational since 01 April 1962 The radar used a mechanical tracking 60-foot dish antenna and was deployed under a radome near the AN/FPS-17. In 1964 under the code Blue Fox it was modernized and upgraded to L-Band and named AN/FPS-80(M). In 1977 both radars at Shemya shown in Figure 1 were replaced by the more powerful AN/FPS-108 phased-array radar.
