AN/APQ-153

The AN/APQ-153 is an operating in the X-band lightweight airborne fire control radar used in the Northrop F-5E “Tiger Ⅱ” fighter aircraft. Its principal operational modes are search, missile control for the AIM-9 „Sidewinder“ missile, and air-to-air gunnery.

The antenna used a parabolic dish with linear horizontal polarization and the dimension of 12 by 16 inches (≙ 30 × 40 cm). The antenna was stabilized to account for maneuvering. The presentation was made on a small 5-inch B-scope in the cockpit.

The radar was developed in the early 1970s.
