Start-1
Start-1 is operating in the S-Band mobile gap-filler radar designed to detect low-altitude targets. The mast had a height of 12 m.
The prototype of this radar was manufactured in 1986 in one of Romania’s military repair shops. It was produced between 1987 and 1994 at the former company Intreprindere Electronica Industriala (now ELPROF) and a university laboratory in Brașov. Since the transmitter could not be manufactured in Romania at that time, remanufactured components from Soviet-produced radars were used.
The complete radar was mounted on two 6×6 trucks of the DAC 665G type, built by the Romanian manufacturer Întreprinderea de Autocamioane Brașov under license from MAN. They included two trailers with the electric generators. 12 such radars were produced for the Romanian forces.
