AN/FPS-56
AN/FPS-56 is operating in the L-Band target acquisition radar for air defense. It was developed for use with Nike Hercules units.
The radar consisted of a basic AN/FPS-36 radar which was equipped with a second transmitter and a second receiver that operate on different frequencies on a common antenna. The reflector of the antenna had dimensions of 40 × 11 feet (12 × 3.3 m). A modification with additional ECCM circuits led to the designation AN/FPS-61. This radar was then fitted with coupling equipment for the Nike Hercules system and named AN/FPS-69.
All Versions were fitted with a secondary radar of type AN/TPX-26. The interrogator set performs the ground station functions of an identification friend or foe (IFF) system.
