AN/SPG-53

AN/SPG-53 is operating in the X-Band gun fire-control radar. It is a modified AN/SPG-48. The radar uses the conical scan technology for target tracking, later variants provide also monopulse tracking and sea state suppression, and the possibility of a target illumination radar with continuous-wave power for semi-active missile guidance. The diameter of the reflector is 1.52 m. The transmitters' power was later drastically reduced to protect the personnel in the gun director under the radar.

The AN/SPG-53 was developed in the early 1960s and replaced by the AN/SPG-60 or AN/SPQ-9 in the early 1970s.
