Type 424
Type 424 was designed as an X-Band approach guidance, surveillance and weather radar, which provides both talk-down facilities and airport supervision in one unit. It was originally designed and used as a marine radar, designated as Type 424N, especially for periscope detecting.
Double-curved parabolic reflectors were much more complicated to manufacture, and correspondingly expensive. However, they had a better directivity in the elevation angle and the horn feed could be made simpler and shorter.
Royal Air Force gave the name ACR 7D to their version of the 424, with minor modifications.
