Type 983

Type 983 is operating in S-Band accurate height finding radar. When not required for height finding it can be used for providing surface and low air warning. The antenna type AQT weighs approximately 7 tons. The reflector measures 14 ft 6" height by 5 ft wide. The turn table is triaxially stabilized to 6 minutes of arc.

This height-finder was used at the Centaur-class aircraft carriers of the Royal Navy.
