JMA-254
The JMA-254 is operating in the S-Band, only semiconductor-based precipitation radar manufactured by Japan Radio Corporation. Due to its long-range and lower attenuation in the S-Band, the radar can detect dangerous weather events far out in the ocean before they hit the mainland.
It uses a symmetrical parabolic antenna with a diameter of about 5 m and linear-horizontal polarization. The multi-channel digital receiver has a sensitivity of −110 dBm.
The radar was developed in 2011. It was the World’s first S-band solid-state weather radar.
