AN/TPS-40

AN/TPS-40 is an operating on a single frequency in C-band, long-range, high-powered, mobile height-finder with a maximum range of 100 NM and a maximum height range capability of 100 000 feet. The AN/TPS-40 is a modified version of AN/MPS-16. The radar has several ECCM features allowing to operate in an ECM environment.

The azimuth orientation is provided by either time-sharing control of the AN/TPS-40 among a maximum of four PPI operators, or by control of the RHI operator. Height information from the RHI may be supplied to the PPI operators by voice from the RHI operator.

Although normally transmitted in four M-35 trucks, the light weight aluminum construction of the AN/TPS-40 permits airlift by either rotary or fixed wing aircraft.
