AN/SPS-29

AN/SPS-29 is an early coherent shipborne air defense radar operating in VHF-band. The transmitter works on 9 different crystall-controlled frequencies in its band. Its bandwidth is 1 MHz. The power amplifier transmitter is a cavity amplifier with a watercooled Tetrode and is fed by a four-stage Tetrode driver amplifier fitted with the standard tubes 4X150A.

The antenna looking like a “bedspring” is a system of 28 folded dipoles mounted in front of a rectangular common reflector. The antenna assembly is mounted on a rotatable pedestal and forms a radiation pattern having a 25.6° vertical beamwidth and 19° horizontal beamwidth.

The AN/SPS-49(V) replaces the AN/SPS-29 and its successor AN/SPS-37.
