The AN/CPN-18 is an S-Band medium range radar portion of an Air Traffic Control System. The radar set detects and locates aircraft targets within 53 nautical miles of an air terminal and displays the target information for air traffic control personnel to permit them to direct andcontrol the aircraft (via radio communications equipment that is not part of this radar). In association with auxiliary equipment, the radar set is also capable of identifying certain aircraft within the radar coverage area and of tracking these aircraft at distances too great to permittracking them with the radar system alone.
The modified sets AN/CPN-18A, -18C, and -18D differ in changing the indicator group, and the synchronizer parameters.
