Meteor 600

The Meteor 600S is a high performance weather radar specially designed for difficult tropical weather conditions. It is a further development of the Meteor 500 S in the so-called S band (2.7 - 2.9 GHz), relies on proven components, uses commercially available assemblies, so-called COTS components such as personal computers with operating systems such as Unix, Linux or Windows. The weather data is evaluated by means of state-of-the-art software, which can also be used to operate the weather radar remotely.

The core of the transmitter is a magnetron, which is keyed by a semiconductor modulator. The digital receiver is a double superheterodyne receiver with a noise figure of only 2 dB and also allows to unfold strong weather echoes, which are still received as an echo from the transmitted pulse from the previous pulse period. Therefore, the displayed distance can be extended up to 1000 km as an option.

The suppression of interfering clutter is done in a Doppler filter bank with 2 · 16 filters and is better than 40 dB.
