55Zh6U “NEBO-U”

55Zh6U “NEBO-U” (kyr.: 55Ж6У «Небо-У», NATO-Designator: “Tall Rack”) is a VHF-band transportable 3-D surveillance radar that is designed to provide long-range detection of air targets operating at a wide range of speeds and altitudes. Nebo is further described as being able to perform its mission autonomously or feed its analog/digital data output to air defense centers. The system’s transmission coding and signal processing techniques are optimized for a countermeasures polluted environment and its manufacturer claims that it is effective against low-observability targets (“Stealth”).

55Zh6U uses a phased array antenna. The echo signals of the pairwise combined rows of the altimeter antenna (12 channels in total) are digitized after conversion to the intermediate frequency and all space-time processing algorithms including electronic beam scanning, interference protection, compression, accumulation, measurement are implemented as a software product in the radar signal processor.
